Special counseling from professional counselors helps children those who suffer from behavioural problems. Children belong to the society but because of their marginalized status they are deprived from social activities which according to the Indian constitution are for every one. Yet children from the marginalized communities get left out. At the Calcutta Emmanuel School the children are taught to feel a part of the society. We instill in them a sense of history and patriotism for their country. They learn to love their country. They celebrate national celebration of Independence Day, Republic day, eminent people’s birthdays etc. We make them aware of issues related to drugs, HIV and AIDS, Pollution, Garbage Disposal, Environment etc. The student takes part in awareness rallies and other major programmes that uphold a national cause. Projects are allotted to the student on different subjects which they put upon display boards. We involve them on service like cleaning their own classrooms; they help local residents dispose garbage in plastic packets. The school makes them confident of their social acceptance. They celebrate children’s day, they perform front of dignitaries, and many dignitaries visit them.. We teach them to be grateful: they celebrate Founders Day, Teachers Day. They remember, with concern, other less fortunate than them. Each students gives Rs 15 a month to a fund earmarked for helping other underprivileged children. Children thus learn their roles- however small- in society, they become channels of change in their own homes and silently promote social and communal harmony. Each morning at Assembly the children listen to the Word of God. They are taught to pray and thank God for the good He has done for them. They sing gospel songs which they learn from their music classes. Lessons are taught form the scripture in Scripture classes. Children learn that spirituality is a way of Life on the basis of God’s Love. They learn to think and behave rightly though stories, illustrations, musical plays, scripture classes and moral instruction classes.
